Announced Date: 6/2/2008 Published Date: 6/3/2008

Ondax of Monrovia, California, a developer and supplier of holographic gratings, wavelength stabilised lasers, wavelength combiners, sensing/multiline filters and RGB filters,

  1. Founded in 2000 by a team from the California Institute of Technology and the University of Bonn with a mission to be the largest manufacturer and supplier of advanced volume holographic gratings (VHGs) and wavelength stabilised laser diodes and modules.

  2. Claiming its gratings offer advantages over thin film and fibre Bragg gratings, including a narrow-band filtering capability in reflection mode (0.1 nm) over a large aperture (25 mm) as used for wavelength stabilisation in high-power laser diodes, beam combining, astronomy multi-line filtering and spectral imaging.

  3. In March 2001 having closed $7.5 million in a Series A financing round led by Mellon Ventures, supported by Alcatel Ventures, Corning Innovation Ventures (CIV), Gabriel Venture Partners and AM Venture Partners.

  4. In July 2003 reported to have secured around $2 million in a Series B round led by Gabriel Venture Partners and returning investors Mellon Ventures, CIV and Alcatel Ventures.

  5. Having last raised funding in January 2005 in a Series C round co-led by Los Angeles-based venture capital firm Arcturus Capital, Park City and Utah-based Prospector Equity Capital, supported by returning investor CIV and the California Institute of Technology.
